BYD, a leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer of China is going to officially start selling electric vehicles (EVs) in Bangladesh from next May through CG Runner with the aim of reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Two versions of the BYD Seal (sedan) model were announced at Bashundhara Convention City in the capital Dhaka on Saturday night.

It is reported that the price of the two cars will be officially announced in April. CG-Runner Bangladesh, a joint venture between Nepal's top business firm Chowdhury Group and Runner Group in Bangladesh, did not disclose the price of the two cars despite announcing the sale.

However, it has been found that the price will be 1 crore 20 lakh taka. Combining state-of-the-art technology with an 'ocean aesthetic' design, the cars will be fully charged in 8 hours on a home charger. BYD Vice General Manager David Xu hopes that it will be possible to continue with this charge for a week. According to his commentary, all brands of electric vehicle batteries can be charged in 45 minutes for Tk 1,500 to Tk 1,800 at commercial charging stations. On the other hand, home charging will take 6-7 hours. In that case, the electricity bill will be less than one thousand taka.

Runner Group Chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan said that two versions of the BYD Seal (sedan) model will be sold initially. One of these versions is the premium variant with an increased mileage of 570 km (rear drive); The other is the performance variant with an AWD (all-wheel drive) mileage of 520 km. There are two charging stations (AC and DC) at the outlet for the convenience of customers. There are plans to open more sales and service centers in the future to increase the use of electric vehicles. They would like to start assembling these cars in the country soon if there are favorable tariff facilities and policies.

In the event Chowdhury Group Vice Chair Nirvana Chowdhury said that it has been possible to reduce carbon emissions of more than 530 million kg in the world through EV vehicles until February 11, 2024.

Customers can enjoy BYD's own e-Platform 3.0, innovative CTB (cell-to-body) technology, blade battery and ITAC (Intelligent Torture Adaptation Control) at the car unveiling ceremony. Apart from this, this car also has sloping roofline, panoramic glass roof, short rear deck, waterdrop mirror, wave waistline and LED lamps.

Initially only 100 EVs reached consumer level in Bangladesh. A wide network of charging stations has not been developed yet. The 3 EV charging stations are also located in the capital. So active EV traders in the country are looking for third-party charging network initiatives to build electric vehicle networks across the country. A total of 10 charging stations, 8 in the capital, one each in Comilla and Chattogram will be launched next June. Besides, 30 more stations are expected to be operational by December. Under such circumstances, BYD has launched the Ava Guard scheme, through which customers who book a car on the day will get free insurance, accessories, registration and double deposit facility. Interested buyers can book a test drive by visiting the link at www.drivebydbd.com .
